Kraft Moisture Absorbent Pad for Fruit Cartons
Kraft paper absorbent pads are laid inside the fruit carton to take up the condensation that forms during pre-cooling and long-distance transport. The pad has an absorbent core faced with breathable kraft paper, so water is drawn away from the fruit surface instead of running back onto it. The kraft facing is biodegradable, so the pad can be disposed of with paper waste rather than separated out as plastic. Used as a top cover or as a base layer, the pad also adds a soft contact surface that cushions the fruit underneath.
Six Things the Pad Does in the Carton
Top Cover or Base Layer
As a top cover, the pad is placed over the upper layer of fruit before the carton is closed. Condensation that forms on the inside of the carton lands on the pad instead of on the fruit, and the pad takes the pressure of the closed lid away from the top layer.
As a base layer, the pad sits under the first layer of fruit so any water collecting at the bottom of the carton is absorbed rather than held against the fruit. On long sea freight the two positions are often used together.

Apples, pears, citrus, kiwis, stone fruit and other produce that is packed in cartons and shipped chilled. The pad is also used where fruit is held in cold storage before dispatch, because the condensation cycle repeats every time the carton moves between temperatures.
